The Nautilus House, The Old Village, Chatham

This quintessential 19th century Cape Cod home is located in Chatham’s Oldest Village just across the street from the beach. Long neglected, it was a glaring eyesore in an area of well preserved historic homes. The poor condition of it's exterior belied the unique original details of the 1830's home including hand-hewn post and beam construction, interior columns, hardware, wide width fir flooring, and an original soapstone sink.

The new owners worked with Minglewood Homes to bring the home back to life, incorporating the original details with improvements more up-to-date with current lifestyle needs.

Stainless steel appliances blend with original woodwork and soapstone countertops complement the original columns....The good morning staircase greets arriving visitors in the front entrance....Newly created bathrooms gleam with new tile and fixtures but are grounded by 150 year old floors...Original dining room mantle and fireplace show off the original ceiling floorboards....

A perfect example of preserving the intrinsic character of an older home, yet outfitting it for the demands of today....

... It's in the details
